Peter Edel’s 1947 album Ich habe es erlebt

many such albums in the archives are the only records, or material traces, of the small, makeshift exhibitions that survivors mounted after the war. Resembling a small photo album, it also includes newspaper clippings of reviews of his exhibition in the Österreichisches Tagebuch, a typed personal statement “Zum Geleit” (foreword) as well as a signed letter from the director of the Vienna art museum acknowledging the accession of his paintings into the municipal collection.[i]
(Edel’s album is archived at the Ghetto Fighters’ House, but it is classified as an artifact because it features photographs of paintings.)
[i] On the third page, Edel notes that “The owner of the originals is the Museum of the Town of Vienna” and pasted the museum director’s letter of acquisition of his “Graphic sequence (KZ-Themen) of 10 chalk drawings.” https://www.infocenters.co.il/gfh/notebook_ext.asp?book=70578&lang=eng&site=gfh
